On the 18th November the British Institute of Interior Design sponsored a trial recruitment event at our offices and workshops for West Midlands interior designers. The events aims were to introduce the role of the Institute and to provide insight into the intricacies of furniture making.
The event ran across the whole day and gave plenty of time for the attendees to ask questions of BIID members and to appreciate the value that membership brings, not least of which is a collective voice to share and exchange ideas, provide access to professional support and to increase their understanding of the industry as a whole. This latter point was of course the reason why the event was held at our offices giving us the opportunity to pilot the programme to those potential designer members within the West Midlands.
The team here ran a series of plenary events to give our guests the opportunity to participate in practical sessions so that they could try their hand at veneering and dovetailing, as well as take part in discussions on the design and manufacturing processes. With the sessions limited by time and group sizes everyone got to try each session.
For those travelling by train we ran a shuttle service between the station and our workshops and those that used this facility said how much it influenced their decision to attend.
Here are some comments that represent what most people had to say.
“Absolutely excellent (event) in every way and very, very useful. All staff were extremely helpful, understanding and patient.”
“The whole day was absolutely excellent. All staff, inspite of having work in progress to do gave freely of their time, were extremely knowledgeable, helpful, friendly, and respectful and obviously care about their work and their responsibilities as part of a team.”
If you or your organisation would be interested in us running a similar event for you during 2011, please send an email to Neil with your requirements to; neil@nejstevenson.co.uk
