Customer safety at the Tower of London!

There is a long and distinguished list of people whose lives met an abrupt end at the Tower of London, including of course two of King Henry VIII's wives, Anne Boleyn and Catherine Howard, and with this being Novembers newsletter it would be remiss not to mention that Guy Fawkes too was incarcerated there after his failed plot to blow up the Houses of Parliament.

The Tower was last used for the purpose for which it was initially intended during World War II when German servicemen were restrained and spies were shot within its confines. Today though, visitor safety is the 'order of the day', as thousands of tourists flock to the Tower annually to become absorbed in its history.

The extensive works to improve the visitor experience at the Tower of London included the requirement for an additional staircase to provide an improvement to the visitor route. The staircase has four treads and a large landing to allow visitors to enter a tower and descend safely to the floor some 800mm below whilst avoiding a low beam. Made entirely from solid English Oak the stair is extremely robust and will provide a stable and long lasting solution.
