Cancer Research UK - Race for Life

This summer, two of our employees, Jan Odell and Fiona Stevenson will be lacing up their running shoes and taking part in this year's 5k 'Race for Life'.

Race for Life began in 1994 and over the years, the monies raised have made a massive impact on the work of Cancer Research UK. With more than 100 different types of cancer, this indiscriminate disease affects the lives of people of all ages. Yet despite huge leaps forward in fighting this disease, cancer still causes 1 in 4 deaths every year. Today, around 290,000 people are newly diagnosed with cancer in the UK every year, so the work of doctors like Professor Bob Grieve, Head of Clinical Oncology at UHCW and Area Volunteer Manager for CRUK, Sue Medcalf and other healthcare professionals like them, is especially important.

Although this is Jan's first Race for Life we're sure it won't be her last. This year she plans to don her outfit with a pink tutu, so look out for photos of Jan after the event.

Fiona has taken part in several Race for Life events since 2002, with hopes of completing the 5k in around 30 minutes. Getting her excuses in early, Fiona says, “I just hope that the broken rib and torn Achilles tendon from last year won't hold me back”, we're sure they won't Fiona.

If you would like to help the ladies 'MAKE A DIFFERENCE' by supporting the vital research into the work of Cancer Research UK you can sponsor Jan and Fiona by making a donation via their 'Just Giving' webpage by clicking on the link below:
